Privacy Policy

Your privacy and protection are extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy outlines how and why we gather and retain your data, in accordance with all applicable privacy laws and regulations, Wanderwell, Wanderwell Insurance Services, all brands of eatapea, LLC are referred to as “Wanderwell” throughout this policy.

What do we collect and why?

We do not collect your personal information at the time of creating a quote. If you create an account on our website, we require an email address for verification purposes. Your name, date of birth, and address for you and your traveling companions are required to purchase a policy. You do not have to have an account in order to purchase a policy. When purchasing a policy, in addition to the personal information listed above, we require credit card information. Your financial information is only used to complete the transaction and we only store the last 4 numbers of your card in our database. Your contact information is only used to send your policy documentation to you after purchase. We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our website. Your IP address is used to help identify you and your quote.

How do we protect your information?

This website takes every precaution to protect and secure your data. We use SSL to encrypt your information, which is then stored securely in our database. When you purchase a policy, your encrypted data is securely sent to the insurance provider where your payment is processed and your insurance policy is provided to you. Wanderwell securely stores a copy of all policies purchased through our website. Only trained and certified staff have access to view customer data. All staff complete security certifications annually for all applicable laws and regulations for data and privacy protection.

Why do we use cookies?

Our site uses cookies to keep track of your shopping cart and to save your non-personal quote information so you do not have to re-enter it each time you visit our site. We use Remarketing with Google Analytics and Facebook to advertise online. Third-party vendors, including Google, show our ads on sites across the Internet. Wanderwell and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) to inform, optimize, and Wanderwell serves ads on other sites based on users past visits to our website. Visitors can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Ads Settings. Our site also uses behavior-tracking tools to capture and collect information about how users interact with our website. This data is solely collected to help us enhance user experience. You may opt out of some non-essential marketing cookies by selecting the “essential only” option on our opt-out pop up. The essential cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of our website. If you desire to have no cookies at all, please do not use our website.

Who do we share your information with?

We do not provide your personal information to third-party mailing lists, nor do we sell, share, or trade your information to unaffiliated parties. From time to time, we may share your email address with third-party vendors to provide services on our behalf, including but not limited to marketing emails, email distribution of surveys, and ad targeting for the Wanderwell brand to be relevant to you based on your interaction with our website. These vendors are not permitted to share your email address with anyone else nor use the information for any other purpose.

In general, our sites will only collect data from you that will be used to respond to and/or resolve your question, to provide accurate quotes, and to issue policies.

We do track the domain name, IP address, browser type, and referring IP address of our site visitors through a site-reporting tool that runs on our servers and uses cookies. This information is used internally only to show activity and trends of our site usage.

From time to time, we may be required to provide your personal information in response to a court order, subpoena, government investigation, or as otherwise required by law.

Wanderwell does not control the privacy practices of the companies which we represent; however, all the companies use the information you provide for the purpose of issuing an accurate insurance policy. Quote information is not shared with any of the insurance companies.

Sharing information with third-party vendors

In order to enhance your experience and to facilitate the provision of our services, Wanderwell may partner with third-party vendors, including but not limited to Protecht Inc. As part of our services, we may share your personally identifiable information (PII), including but not limited to your name, date of birth, address, and insurance policy details, with Protecht and other vendors. These partnerships are designed to support the sale of travel insurance and related services.

Protecht is authorized to ingest, utilize, and distribute your PII as necessary to provide support and services that are integral to the travel insurance products we offer. By purchasing a policy, you authorize Wanderwell to share relevant PII with Protecht and similar vendors for these purposes.

Please be assured that when we share your PII with Protecht or any other vendor, it is done within the bounds of strict data privacy agreements designed to protect the integrity and confidentiality of your personal information. These vendors are bound by their own privacy policies and are not permitted to use your personal data for any other purposes than as set forth by our agreements with them.

What happens if you are referred by one of our Travel Partners?

If you accessed our website via one of our Travel Partners’ unique links, they will be credited with your sale and can log into their secure account to obtain information related to your policy, including your name, policy number, address, email address, and travel information.

How long do we keep your information for?

We store your information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. For more information on what we store and why, please contact us.

Automated Decision Making Process

When purchasing a policy, the information entered will result in automated decisions regarding your eligibility for travel insurance. Every travel insurance product has different requirements based on age, travel dates, residency, trip cost, and destination. When quoting and purchasing, your information is checked against these eligibility requirements to automatically allow or deny a quote and/or sale. You have the right to contest the decision, to express your point of view, and to require human review of the decision. See below for your choices and options, and how to contact us.

Your Rights, Choices and Options

You will only receive communications from Wanderwell and the insurance provider from which you purchased your policy. At any time, you can ask to review any of the information we have retained, how we have used it, and to whom we have disclosed it to by submitting a Personal Data Request via email. With proof of your identity and in compliance with exceptions prescribed by law, you will have reasonable access to your personal information and will be entitled to modify, change, and/or remove any non-necessary or inaccurate personal information in our database. Removal of your contact information will stop any future communications from Wanderwell.

Wanderwell endorses and adopts entirely the data handling practices found in:

  • The Canadian Standard Associations' Model Code for Protection of Personal Information.
  • New York State Department of Financial Services regulation 23 NYCRR 500
  • The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation
  • The Californian Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
